You’re been in the industry for so long now. We got a lot of awards and we were nationally praised. Because we weren’t alone, we had the strength of our community, it wasn’t bad. There’s a bunch of us, probably about 20 of us, that worked seven days a week at the theater and studied together for about 10 years. ![]() Mako was the artistic director then, and he kind of took us under his wing. The cool thing about East West Players was that it gave you a soft place to land. We made our own rules, me and my two brothers. They were so busy working and making a living and putting food on the table that they really didn’t care. Back then she worked at a sewing factory, and we worked on our vegetable farm. I think I was much more of a goofball and my parents weren’t as strict, for sure.The thought of me wanting to act was not an option when I was growing up, so I was getting my teaching credential. So, to be honest, growing up I personally wasn’t a lot like Lane. ![]() KA: Not really, because my parents and Lane’s parents are very different. TV: Were you anything like Lane as a kid? And the phone call that Lane makes to her mom, I loved shooting that, it was one of my favorite moments. This is even before Sebastian Bach comes in, and we had a house party. I think one of the most memorable ones for me was when she’s at the party. During the earlier seasons of the show, many of Lane's story arcs on 'Gilmore Girls'. TV: What is your favorite ‘rebellious Lane moment’ of the show? One of the most important people in Rory's life is her best friend, Lane Kim, played by Keiko Agena. My thoughts honestly were: ‘This is a great part for whoever ends up getting it.’ So when I did get it, it was just overwhelming, it was such a surprise. So I was actually really relaxed about it. To be honest, I thought I was too old for it – I didn’t think I had a shot in hell. When I saw the script, my first thoughts were, ‘ This is incredible.’ It was moving, it was funny, it was smart.
